Practical Approaches to Cyberbullying

Venue: YHGfL Seminar Room
15 Mar

Cyberbullying is a very real concern for children and young people today. Relying on the Internet and mobile phones for organising all aspects of their lives, young people are particularly vulnerable to bullying via this technology. Research consistently estimates that around a quarter of young people are victims of cyberbullying, with some studies putting this figure significantly higher.

This workshop will provide teachers and other professionals with a range of practical, tried-and-tested approaches to working with children and young people, talking about the issues, raising awareness and also dealing with incidences of cyberbullying. It’s not just about finding out the issues, it’s about looking at the nitty-gritty of tackling the issue head-on with young people. This workshop is being delivered by Chris Stansfield, Anti-Bullying Consultant in
collaboration with YHGfL.

Target Audience
Teachers and other professionals who work directly with children and young people from KS2 to KS4, to raise awareness of and address the issue of cyberbullying.

This workshop will be an opportunity to:
• Understand what cyberbullying is, and how young people can use technology to bully.
• Explore similarities and differences between cyberbullying and other forms of bullying.
• To help delegates develop the confidence, knowledge, skills and understanding to discuss cyberbullying issues with young people.
• To provide delegates with a range of activities they can use with young people to explore issues around, and dealing with, cyberbullying.
