Weather resources
The YHGfL weather data provides excellent opportunities for local, regional and national study of weather patterns, as well as comparison of weather in different localities across the UK. Our small island is influenced by the Atlantic weather systems, and we should make the most of this when planning classroom activities from geography and ICT to science, from mathematics and art to English.
- YHGfL weather stations and webcams are located in each local authority in the YHGfL region and linked to a national network. Weather data is collected, monitored and displayed in real-time and as historic datasets.
- The weather station provides an interactive diagram to illustrate and describe each component of the weather station.
- What to wear provides a world map outline designed to promote discussion about climate in other countries. The activity is based on choosing suitable clothing for an adult male in a range of locations.
- Reading scales is an interactive teaching tool where teachers and pupils can interpret and manipulate different types of scales found on the weather station.
- Weather forecast is designed for use on an interactive whiteboard and allows the teacher or pupils to interact with dials and gauges showing a range of scales.
- Weather clipart is a set of weather symbols and Yorkshire and Humber map outlines in a wide range of formats to suit your classroom needs.
