Weather Resources

The United Kingdom is a nation of people obsessed with the weather. The study of climate is a fascinating activity with relevance in many areas of the National Curriculum, including geography, maths, literacy and science.
Through membership of YHGfL, each local authority in the Yorkshire and Humber region has a Weather Station and webcam linked to a national network. Weather data is collected, monitored and displayed in real-time and as historic datasets.

What can I do with weather data?

The YHGfL weather data provides excellent opportunities for local, regional and national study of weather patterns, as well as comparison of weather in different localities across the UK. Our small island is influenced by the Atlantic weather systems, and we should make the most of this when planning classroom activities from geography and ICT to science, from maths and art to English.

In this section you can find a number of applications which can be used to teach children about collecting, interpreting and using weather data. Furthermore it is now possible to quickly view data from around the region by visiting the YHGfL Weather Stations. Why not combine weather data and our clipart to create your own weather forecast?

The Met office publish a range of fantastic resources on using weather data in both the Primary and Secondary classroom. Their site also contains worksheets and ideas for using weather across the curriculum. Visit the Met office site.
