Regional Broadband Consortia

RBCs and their role in delivering broadband technology and resources to schools

ALMOST 99 per cent of schools (DfES figures) in England are able to enjoy high-speed connectivity at the desktop, thanks to the efforts of the 10 Regional Broadband Consortia (RBC).

The role of the RBCs - which were set up by the DfES to connect all schools - has been crucial in: achieving best value in terms of procuring connectivity; understanding the needs of schools in their locality; providing access to relevant resources, often free at the point of use; and finding creative solutions to the technical barriers to success.
