Internet Safety at School

Internet Safety and Acceptable Usage of ICT equipment and services in schools is the responsibility of the school.

All schools should have an Acceptable Usage Policy - this is a requirement of the original NGfL criteria and has been reiterated through the NOF ICT Training funding requirements to ensure that the Policy covers use by adults (teachers, helpers, parents, etc) as well as pupils. As a school policy it should be accepted formally by the Governors and made available to parents.

As part of the National Curriculum for ICT children are taught to use computers and Internet services with responsibility and consideration for their own safety and with respect for other people; this is similar to learning the highway code and road and travel safety.

Superhighway Safety

The Government guidance on Internet Safety is published on the Superhighway Safety website: safety.ngfl.gov.uk

ISP accreditation

BECTa have introduced an accreditation scheme for educational Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to raise the standards of safety, security and service levels from ISPs for schools and educational users.
