The recent announcement of the cutting of £100m of Harnessing Technology Grant (HTG) in the current financial year represents a 50% cut in funding for front-line services in schools and threatens directly the provision of ICT services for schools both regionally and nationally. Not only is there the probable loss of high speed, safe broadband and other key services, but the overall costs for schools to replace these services will be significantly higher, and the replacement services may well be less secure, than those currently in place which benefit from expertise drawn from across the region.
